Nathan Babich for Town Council

My primary goal, if elected to town council, is to strengthen the ties between the council and its constituents. The Town of McCandless website is lacking in timely information, and our community shouldn’t be struggling to find what the council is doing and when it is doing so. Combined with the slow erasure of our citizens’ oversight via public comments and questioning, it’s clear that the council has lost its way as public servants. I aim to knock on every door in our Ward and when elected, to take action to ensure that we are meeting the goals you assign to me in a transparent and accountable manner.

These are some of the ways to improve McCandless that I've heard the most speaking with you all, so far. If I haven't knocked on your door yet, keep an eye out for me!

-Better manage stormwater township wide, and specifically in the long-neglected Duncan Heights cemetery for its interred veterans. -Further improving our excellent community services. Our firefighters have gone too long without shower facilities. -Balancing tax base broadening development to keep up with rising costs while preserving our private and public green spaces. -Our vehicular incidents are increasing; we can do a better job enforcing safety-oriented traffic laws and incentivizing safer driving.

Bio:

I grew up in Westmoreland County, first on a corn farm and then in suburban Greensburg. My partner Allyssa and I moved to McCandless in 2019 when she became the archivist at La Roche University. That year I took a job with the Census Bureau as they administered the decennial census. Afterwards, I was offered a position to conduct the National Crime Victimization Survey. I used my door knocking experience (especially the practice talking about thorny subjects in doorways!) to become a political canvassing organizer and then field director during the 2024 election cycle. As 2024 drew to a close, I offered my services to the McCandless Democratic Committee, only to find that they needed a candidate more than they needed a canvasser. That is why this year I am running for Town Council. I care about my community, and want to do my part for it.
